    <br><br>Jean-Feri Rebel (French Jean-Féry Rebel; 1666-1747) – French composer and violinist. He is best known for the orchestral suites „Elements” and „Characteristic features of dances”.<br>Essay on biography and creativity<br>Jean F. Rebel’s father Jean Rebel (c. 1636 – 1692) sang (tenor) in the chapel of Louis XIV. Jean-Feri also grew up at the court of the . Studied with Jean Baptiste Lully. In 1699, the first violin of the French Royal Academy of Music (fr. Académie royale de musique). In 1700 he went to Spain. Upon his return to France in 1705, he received a place in the orchestra „24 King’s Violins”. In 1716, Musical Director (FR. Maître de musique) of the Orchestra of the Royal Academy of Music and court ballet performances. In 1726 he was promoted to court “composer of music”.<br><br>Rebel first began to compose ballets without singing (he called them „dance symphonies”). In the orchestral suite „Elements of the Universe”, or „Elements” (fr. Les Élémens, 1738, author’s subtitle – „new symphony”) used a sonor cluster – to depict the initial cosmic chaos. A piece of the same title (Chaos) from this suite is considered one of the earliest examples of cluster use in music history.<br><br>As a chamber composer, Rebel, on the one hand, was a direct successor to Lully, to whose memory he dedicated the violin sonata The Tomb of Mr. Lully (French Le Tombeau de M. Lully, that is, Tribute to Lully), and on the other, one of the first French authors who turned to the Italian genre of sonatas (nine sonatas from 1695). Rebel’s only opera „Ulysses” was staged at the Royal Academy in 1703.<br><br>The son, also a composer François Rebel, was married to Anne-Auguste de Valjolly, daughter of the famous French ballerina Françoise Prévost, for whom Rebel composed in 1715 a small suite „Characteristic features of dancing” (fr.
